SIMON RIPLEY

Simon will be resident in Northwood during Spring 2011 and will be working with participants of all ages, creating prints of different sizes.

“I am a printmaker living in Devon. I grew up in Leicester. I am married and I have three daughters. I am a keen vegetable gardener and I have a studio shed in my back garden – amongst the vegetables. During my Growing Hearts and Minds residency I hope to bring my portable printing press up to Stoke from Devon. Ill run print making workshops with community groups and local schools and hopefully some sessions in Northwood park for anyone who would like to get involved.

In Devon I work from the Double Elephant Print Workshop which I helped to establish in 1998. The workshop is a community based open-access print studio offering courses and membership but also running outreach workshops in schools, prisons, hospitals and beyond. In addition, Double Elephant runs a ‘print on prescription’ scheme to introduce mental health service users to making art.
